You're probably looking to visit your family, do business joint ventures or start a new business so today I’m going to share with you the three methods you can utilize in order to come into Vietnam.
So let's get started.
I know at this current time you are waiting to get back into Vietnam to start a new business, to work with your joint venture partners, to visit your family and various other reasons so today I want to make sure that you know the three options that you have to get into Vietnam.
But to make sure you get the updated information about southeast Asia, make sure that you like follow the Dion’s Travels Facebook page and subscribe to the Youtube channel in order to get the most updated information about Vietnam.
So let's get started, but before we get into this article on the three ways to come to Vietnam, at the time of the writing of this article, I want to make sure and emphasize that Vietnam is still not open for tourism. That means even if even if you're a US citizen, a Canadian citizen, German citizen or any other nationality, it is not open for tourism.
Originally it was forecasted that Vietnam would open up fully for commercial flights and business in Q2 of 2021, however due to the new developments of a few new cases and also illegal entry into Vietnam from neighboring countries, the forecast has been adjusted towards it being be in Q4 of 2021, mainly because Vietnam is a very conservative country, and it wants to make sure that the people are protected thus they'll be very strict with when they open up for commercial tourism.
The Vietnamese government announced last year a list of people they want to prioritize to come back to Vietnam as it pertains to national security and economic growth. For now, the list is rather limited, but it still allows essential travelers to enter Vietnam.
First Method: High-Skilled Worker Visa
The first way to come into Vietnam is coming in on an employment visa which is falls into either an expert a business manager, a high-tech worker or a skilled worker. In order to come into Vietnam with this visa, this visa category is called employment based high high-skilled labor and that is the second way in order to come into Vietnam.
For employees who want to enter Vietnam should ensure they have a sponsor who can assist that employee in obtaining the necessary paperwork and communicate any changes to them.
I also want to highlight some of the important steps that employers need to take to facilitate the arrival of their foreign employees. First the employer is required to submit a letter to the local provincial people's committee with specific details about the employee job details as well as their travel plans. Then the local provincial people's committee is then expected to make a decision and then submit the request to Vietnam's immigration department.
So if the application is approved by the provincial people's committee, the employer would also need to submit a letter and necessary documents to the immigration department, including the local provincial people's committee decision on the approval.
Second Method: Investor Visa
The second visa that you can get is called an investor visa (from DT1 to DT4) so the minimum investment for you to invest is $150,000 US dollars into a legitimate business in Vietnam, with that you can get a business investor visa in order to come into Vietnam.
There are a few exceptions into what you can invest with less than $150,000, however from my lawyer’s advice it's better if you invest more due to the high demand of people trying to get investor visas. So, if you’re ready to invest in Vietnam it is recommended to consult a legal professional who can help you with visas, is knowledgeable about Vietnam business laws, can do due diligence on local business partners and help with real estate.
Third Method: Vietnamese Descent or Overseas Vietnamese Passport
The third way to come into Vietnam is if you have a Vietnamese passport so Vietnamese citizens can come into Vietnam however, if you are of Vietnamese descent or an overseas Vietnamese, you can get a Vietnamese passport as well.
Entrance Requirements
Before you enter Vietnam, for those entering through as one of the specific categories listed above -- there's an online medical declaration form to fill out, you’ll also need to undergo a PCR test within three to seven days before arrival, AND these tests must be carried out as labs qualified by the WHO or the government in your departure country
You will also be tested again upon arrival into the country regardless of which visa you come in with there's still a mandatory quarantine and right now the date is 14 days of mandatory quarantine in various different three-star hotels or military base or other facilities.
However, if you want a shorter period of quarantine there are a few exceptions such as if you're an expert and are only here for less than 14 days, then you can lower the amount of quarantine, but you have to get special permission and get the request from the authorities in order to have a limited quarantine period, thus no matter which visa you're in you have to be quarantined for at least seven days and at most 14 days.
Exception those who wish to remain in the country for more than 14 days are free to do so provided that they have not tested positive for Covid-19 and quarantine for short-term visits for Japanese businesspeople have also been lifted.
Lastly, another requirement that you need to meet is to have medical insurance to cover the situation whereby you do contract Covid-19 while in Vietnam and need hospital and medical treatment. So, you need to make sure you have your health insurance in place in order to
come into Vietnam.
In Conclusion
So, in closing, the three ways that I mentioned above are ways to get into Vietnam and unfortunately it does not include tourism, however rest assured, I try to give you the most up-to-date information on this topic and try to give you the best timeline possible about when Vietnam will lift their current restrictions for people to get into Vietnam from the tourism side.
