I stayed at a nice resort called apsara, the resort was really peaceful, it had a whirlpool tub in the room which was relaxing and the sounds of the ocean was nice too.

I was looking for a somewhat remote and not so touristy place with a beach and Khao Lak was the suggestion from a colleague. This place is really remote and I'm glad I rented a car because otherwise it would be really inconvenient. Its really easy to rent a scooter in Khao Lak, however the summer season has a lot of rain and flooding so a scooter would be very uncomfortable in the hard rain.

Thinking back on it, I wouldn't come here again just because the beach is really bare and the ocean is not very hospitable, also having to drive everywhere is kinda annoying, also I wouldn't recommend driving a scooter from Phuket to Khao Lak just because the ride isn't going to be very comfortable.

In my mind somewhere like Boracay would be more ideal because I can imagine the beaches are more hospitable and more sunny.

However having said that, I did enjoy my time here at the resort, it was peaceful and relaxing and always had open parking spots and the complimentary breakfast buffet was excellent.

I also went on a tour to the Phang Nga islands and I also drove down to Patong and went to Jungceylon shopping mall to see what it was all about. However, I didn't get a chance to check out Patong beach though, so if I ever come back to Phuket, that's a place I would want to stay near. More about Phang Nga islands in part 2....
